Chalet l'Ancolie is situated within an easy ten minute walk from the centre of Châtel, one of the top resorts of the French Alps and one of the main stations in the enormous Portes du Soleil ski-circuit. Chatel boasts more than 90km of marked pistes. Our experienced guides will be happy to show you some fun runs (and excellent restaurants) off the beaten track but always within your mountain biking abilities, accompanied or not by a monitor, on the 90km of marked paths of the resort, to the permanent downhill tracks of Super Châtel, to the 4x or the Pré-la-Joux bike park, in Châtel you'll be satisfied, whatever your level is.

With every year, new exciting services are added to those already existing in order to widen the VTT offer.

Châtel is also a part of the Portes du Soleil area, which means that you'll be able to ride from one resort to the other using lifts and marked tracks, just as skiers do during the winter time.

Leaving from the centre of the village, the Super-Châtel cablecar takes you up to 5400 ft, from where numerous tracks leave across the alpine pasture and around the lakes.

From there you can also take the Morclan chair-lift to 6460 ft with a panoramic view that will take your bor paragliders…

From the Pré-la-Joux village, four miles away, the Pierre-Longue chair-lift will take you directly to the summer pasture village of Plaine-Dranse. From there, explore further afield by taking the Rochassons chair-lift ...

You can even go to Avoriaz by taking two other chairlifts. 

Other activities

Rock Climbing. The Via Ferrata of Saix des Miolènes is located in La Chapelle d'Abondance.  The route climbs are very steep and on exposed rock face.  It follows an attractive rocky route made up of a succession of ledges, corners and overhangs.

It consists of three separate sections: le cabri, le chamois and le bouquetin, with an option to use chains.

There are several physically demanding sections of varying lengths in the 2nd and 3rd sections which are open only to experienced via ferrata climbers or under close supervision. 

The Fantasticable. An unbelievable sensation! There's nothing faster! A vertiginous drop! The only ride of its kind in the world!!!

Comfortably positioned in a harness, you fly along at almost 100 km/h (60 mph) at up to 240 m above the hamlet of Plaine-Dranse.

From the air the countryside looks completely different!!!
